Regulating the Sensory System

Updated: Dec 17, 2019

So you're noticing that some of the behaviors we spoke about for your child ... you are reaching out for help, but sometimes that help can take what feels like forever!! What can you do? Incorporate some movement in your child’s day . Start in the morning, have your child engage in one of these exercises  to help your child to regulate his/her sensory system.

What Can I Do?

  • Running

  • Spinning

  • The Sandwich game: Get pillow cushions and squish your child carefully. Not too much weight and make sure they can breathe.

  • Moving heavy objects like books.

  • The wheelbarrow walk

  • Pushing heavy chairs

  • Drink from a straw

  • Bounce a ball

These are just a few ideas that don’t cost anything and you will know  pretty quickly if this helps your child regulate or not. I have had great success with them !
